Here we have one of the earlier
big DnB singles. It is from Nasty Habits aka
Doc Scott on the 31 Records label. It is
Shadow Boxing / Prototyped and was
released in 1996. The A side Shadow
Boxing is the main track here and it has a
nice 2 step beat with a wicked heavy bassline.
The bassline is so sick and twisted, it reminds
me of swimming in the abyss. Another
thing I like about this track is the Kung-Fu
samples from the original Wu-Tang movies,
which I love soo much. The back side of the
record, Prototyped, is not to be taken
lightly either. It has some pretty tight
drum samples.
This is where I will be adding my recommendations for what I think is the best DJ gear based on my experiences. I might also add some reviews of some gear that I haven’t tried yet, but think might be worth trying based on what I’ve heard about it.
First up is the best turntable flight cases that I have found so far. They are the Marathon Heavy Duty 1200 series. I am currently using two of them to keep the dust off of my turntables when I’m not using them, but the cases are very sturdy and would be good for travel as well. They come in several colors and have a lot of nice features. My favorite feature is the removable plate on the back that hides a hole for the cables to go through so the turntables never have to leave the box. It also has a removable top and very secure latches with a hole for a lock. Another nice feature is the retractable handles. All in all these cases are the best for the buck and like the description says they really do hold all sizes of turntables. They hold my gigantic Numarks with room to spare and come with rubber spacers for smaller turntables. Have a look:
Next on the list is an original album from the one called Photek. It is called Modus Operandi (which means “mode of operating” in Latin) and was originally released in 1997. I think this is one of his best albums. His styles are more on the atmospheric/intelligent dnb side but they are still cold and calculated, and his drum samples are so truly unique you will not hear anything else like it. This was a first CD album release by one of the pioneers of Drum and Bass and it is a killer:
Will now be adding my favorite CD and MP3 selections. I am starting with my second favorite Dieselboy mix album – projectHUMAN. It has 2 discs and was released in 2002. It is packed with quality tunes and they all go together perfectly. There is not a single song that I hate on this whole album. The whole set is soo laid back yet still hard, dark and fast if that’s even possible. This CD is perfect to listen to while cruising in your car down the L.A. interstates for hours and hours, which is what I did when I first bought it. It is truly one of a kind. I thought and hoped this was going to be the future sound of Drum and Bass when it came out, but unfortunately the genre took a downturn after that and has been like that ever since. Here it is:

Next in the gallery is my second
best single, another release from the
amazing Ed Rush & Optical. This time
they are on the Virus Recordings label
and this was released in 1999 under the
title Watermelon/Sick Note. As usual
both sides of the record are utterly sick
hence the name “Sick Note”. While
some people prefer the A side I myself
think the other side (Watermelon) is the
better song to play live. The darkness
is unbelievable.

Added new gallery page. Will be adding
pics of my vinyl collection to this page
over time for reference and review. I
will start with the best and hardest to
find piece, Ed Rush, Optical & Fierce
- Cutslo, Alien Girl. It was released in
1998 under the Prototype Recordings
label. This is one of the true classics.
Both sides of the record are equally dark
and brutal. Definitely one of my favorites.
I will also eventually be adding short
audio clips to all of the pics as well.
